To Those Who Know
One of my favourite quotes is from Thomas Aquinas who said "To those who know, no explanation is necessary. To those who don't, no explanation is possible."
When you break it down, faith is a belief and that is, as Alistair Crowley famously said "Belief is the enemy of knowledge."
Two powerful quotes - equally true in their own way. Two powerful quotes I use on a regular basis and both highlight me as a big fat liar.
I don't actually know anything for sure.
I know nothing Jon Snow!
Taking myself down this rabbit hole, what if knowledge, belief and faith are all the same things?
What if no one really knows anything 100% for sure?
Imagine a world where the leading economic capital is data which is nothing more than one person's knowledge, belief and faith sculptured and fashioned into packaged products to sell.
Imagine if we began to believe that this data, that is fed to us in a variety of mediums, was 100% correct and thus became integrated into our very being and identity as our own perspective?
Imagine the sale of these data products to global markets of humans like you and me, is actually designed as effective measures of management and control for a diverse range of corporations?
Driven by personal axiology’s, subconsciously designed for one single purpose, how easy would it be to filter our entire life experience through these perspectives as if they were real? As if it were true? As if it was irrefutable fact? Plato's analogy of the cave anyone?
What if, in this deluded state, we are fuelled by the fight to be right about something of which we can never truly have all the data?
"To those who know, no explanation is necessary. To those who don't, no explanation is possible." has a whole new meaning in 2022 does it not?
