Drowning in Stuff..........again
My three year old grand daughter walked into the house two nights ago and declared most audaciously " What is this mess, Lala?"
I literally have sh*t everywhere.
This week has been one of decluttering for us. Anything not used in the past 12 months is being donated, dumped or recycled and repurposed in some way.
I am reminded of the CS Lewis quote when he said "Nothing that you have not given away will ever be really yours." Too true as I part with some treasured wooden boxes that I have held onto for decades for no reason other than I love them. Now someone else gets to love them.
A few years ago we downsized from a large suburban house to tiny inner city cottage. My mission was to accumulate experience instead of things.
Fast forward post pandemic and we are drowning in stuff again. Bloody hell how did that happen so fast?
It's not the size of the house, but the driving force of the why and the what that fuels the need to accumulate all this stuff.
My weakness is books.
But this week, feeling so energised, I have a clearer vision of what I desire my environment to look like again.
So far, 10 bags of clothes, shoes and just general stuff that we do not need or use, 6 pieces of furniture, 2 rugs, and collections of bits and pieces have been donated or dumped.
There is, however, a tiny voice in my head sweetly cajoling me into buying a whole pile of new stuff to fill this new space but a much louder guffawing voice is telling it to shut the f**k up and just enjoy the healing process.
